The Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (APBS) has banned the sale of sildenafil citrate tablets to the public for use in erectile dysfunction (ED). Sildenafil citrate tablets contain the same active ingredient as Viagra but contain the same active ingredient in the same strength.
The APBS ban was imposed after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) ruled that Viagra tablets were not suitable for sale in Australia.
“The Australian Health and Safety Authority (AHSA) is currently reviewing the sale of Viagra tablets to the public and will advise the ACCC on the availability of sildenafil citrate tablets in Australia for sale,” the regulator said.
The ACCC ruled that sildenafil citrate tablets were not suitable for sale in Australia for sale and therefore the ACCC ban was valid.
A spokesman for the ACCC said, “The ACCC has upheld the decision and will continue to review the matter.”
Sildenafil citrate tablets contain the same active ingredient as Viagra (sildenafil) tablets. The MHRA said there were no restrictions for sale of Viagra tablets to customers in Australia.“The APBS ban is a clear violation of the Federal Government’s strict safety and quality regulations and is the result of continued efforts to protect consumers from counterfeit products.”
The APBS’ ban was imposed in September 2019, and it was announced in December 2019 that the ACCC’s decision to review the sale of Viagra tablets to the public was upheld. However, due to the recent decision by the ACCC to overturn a decision of the APBS, the ACCC has also been unable to take further action against sildenafil citrate tablets.

Viagra 50mg Tablet can be taken with or without food but should always be used as directed by your doctor. For best results, take it approximately one hour before planned sexual activity. While the time it takes to work may vary from person to person, it usually starts acting within 30 minutes to an hour. This medicine works only when there is sexual stimulation. Do not exceed the recommended dose of one tablet in 24 hours.
